Today in class we made a fruit flan. We had to make our own sweet shortcrust pastry and our own creme patissiere (pastry cream). We got to use vanilla beans to flavour our creme patissiere which was really exciting. I’ve been way too cheap to buy my own vanilla beans so this was my first time using them! Anyway, the pastry cream was extremely yummy and i think my crust turned out alright. We also had the chef come around at the end of the class and give comments on our work. We won’t be assessed on our work till next week but this was just to give us a taste of what it’s like I suppose. I was very pleased when the chef pointed out my flan as “outstanding”. whoohoo!!!
